The Sauer-Group “Compressors”
Founded in 1884 under the name of Wilhelm Poppe, the Kiel based machine construction company as early as in 1930 started with the development and the manufacture of its own compressor programme and thus began its successful career in this area. The company, which had already become a reliable and competent partner for industry, shipping and navy as ”POPPE”, is now known worldwide as J.P. Sauer & Sohn Maschinenbau GmbH. Since its expansion to the Sauer Compressors Group it has become the technological leader in the area of high-pressure compressors and compression technology.
Ensuring optimum proximity to customers and competitiveness combined with the continuously growing international orientation of the company represented the main objectives during the establishment of the Sauer Compressors Group. Sauer’s own growth has gradually been complemented by the acquisition of the companies GIRODIN-SAUER S.A. in Paris and SAUER-ZANDOV A.S. in the Czech Republic , also operating in the field of high-pressure compressors, as well as by its own foundations of Sauer Compressors USA Inc. in Maryland and Sauer UK in Ipswich. The cooperation with ALUP-Kompressoren GmbH in Köngen ensures the necessary competence and technology in the area of screw-type compressors.
The Sauer production plant at Kiel-Friedrichsort, today the headquarters of an internationally operating group. Area of the new enlarged plant facility with 2000 m² finished in 2002.
